Holiday Direct Travel Group Ceased Trading

Agent support firm and tour operator Holiday Direct Limited had ceased trading over the weekend. And it is not much of a surprise when administrator Hill Jarrett, of the Southhampton – based company was called in, which traded Holiday Direct Travel Group, Book Holiday Direct, Go Travel Group and The Travel Box.

Holiday Direct has been providing “partnership systems” to help some of the markets new and existing travel agents including and not limited to IT Supports, Training, Administration services and even ticket processing.

There are bound to at least 15 people that were currently abroad with the company in different destinations such as Spain, Greece, Turkey, and even Egypt said the CAA Spokesman. There were up around s300 forward bookings with at least 16 passengers who had been due to travel this week.

A statement was released from the company’s website and it is as follows:

“We regret to inform you that Holiday Direct Limited have ceased trading and are in liquidation. Our appointed representative Geoff Jarrett at Hills Jarrett will contact all creditors within seven days.

“All customers still to travel will receive a personal letter from Holiday Direct Limited within 24 hours.”
Holiday Direct Travel Group was established around 1998 as a service provider for independent agents. This is to help agents with a few experience through an offer for administration support and training. It is implied to relieve the burden of chasing payments, tickets and even contacting customer care. Some of the board of directors including Cary Lam who is the managing director, spent most of his career in sales division and Graham Chuter, as an operations director for UK Tour Operators.

This had helped some agents with no experience who might find the Holiday Direct Travel Group to be hard in being accepted by some other travel groups. Some Agents who joined them earned up around 85 percent of the gross total commission and use Holiday Direct’s Atol. Members could make use of some of their personal branding or even use up Holiday Direct’s brand.

U.S. tourists doubts Europe travel

The warning given by the United States to its people traveling in Europe has certainly raised concerns for those who are already in Europe and those who have planned trips in the country. The said warning relays the plans of Al Qeada attacking similar to the one done in Mumbai, India in 2008.

However, the president of Airfarewatchdog.com strongly believes that cancellation of trips of necessary since there is very little possibility of something happening to a particular individual while on a trip. Former and current U.S. State Department officials also push that the warning should not cause a scare and prevent them from traveling to Europe.

Travel agents have observed that the alert had little impact. Martin Rapp, a senior vice president of leisure sales in Altour in New York cited incidents of worried clients calling to ask what they should do. She also stated that the fashion week in Paris in September and the first half of October is still expected to be attended by affluent travelers.

American tourists already in Europe are still flocking tourist landmarks despite the alert. They are on alert but they refuse to be intimated by the said threat. Marion Harbison of the Sterling Brownell in Birmingham, Alabama warns advises tourists to be watchful when in a large gathering. Jergel also stresses that tourist should always be aware of their surroundings and that they should always keep tabs of the international news.

British Airways Reviewed Seating Policy

British Airways is one of UK’s outstanding airlines to date and has been living up to its standard based on their internal and travelling seat guides on board. However in some cases, there are certain measures that are necessarily being done and being processed as soon as you get inside the flight airline. Furthermore, passengers that are accompanied by minors from aged 2 up to 11 years are advised to have a certain allocated seat that is suitable for the person, 3 days before the departure. And if the group cannot be seated together, each child will be seated with an adult while children who are travelling along will have an allocated seat as well, 3 days before the departure. And so it goes with other folks who are travelling via British Airways.

However, one scenario has taken British Airways to take a clarification and review on their usual seating policy involving children who travel alone or with passengers who are travelling with minors. The incident happened when a business traveller sued the airline for making him feel like a criminal or a paedophile after he was seated next to a child that he did not know during his flight on British Airways.

Mirko Fischer is a frequent traveller and been travelling from Luxembourg to London, when the incident happened. He actually swapped places with his then pregnant wife so she can have a window seat. But the 35 year old hedge fund manager from Luxembourg was motioned to move seats by some of the cabin crews under an internal ruling that actually prevents adult males to sit right next to unaccompanied minors.

From this, Fischer felt like the British Airways has mistreated him and made feel like a “child molester”, and decided to sue the airline for the breach of the Sex Discrimination Act.

He later successfully won a compensation order at Slough County Court, where British Airways admitted that his case was indeed referring to the sex discrimination, and later agreed to pay him a damaged cost of £2,161 and £750, which he later donated to child protection charities.

From this, the British Airways decided to conduct a review for the policy after what happened. Spokesman from the BA said that they have recently changed their internal advice for seating and airport teams to ensure that the seating of unaccompanied minors are managed in safe but non-discriminatory manners.

Moreover, he said that,” “We carry tens of thousands of unaccompanied minors every year and take great pride in the service that we provide to them and their parents.

“We have offered this service on all flights for many years for children aged between five and 11 years old, who are travelling alone.

“On some services, this will be in a specially created Unaccompanied Minors zone within a short distance of the cabin crew in the galley.

Airlines such as British Airways have their own sets of seating policies and thus regards much on unaccompanied minors, while the Virgin Atlantic allows passengers to sit and choose freely where they like to seat.

UK Student Tier 4 Visa Review Again
